Engineering Manager

JOB SUMMARY This individual is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the engineering team. Tasks will focus on the development and execution of projects that will improve safety, reduce costs, improve quality, reduce inventory and work in process, reduce rework and increase manufacturing capability. Responsible for tracking, validating, and communicating project results. The team will include process planners (PPD), tooling engineers and manufacturing engineers. He/she will also be required to work in close cooperation with lead personnel, setup personnel, CNC programmers and shop supervisors to assure the production of high quality machined components. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following. Other duties may be assigned. Increase manufacturing efficiency and reduce costs through lean manufacturing initiatives. Identifies areas of improvement and recommends projects that fit within the companies overall objectives and future business plans. Prioritizes and schedules projects based on business impact. Maintains accurate records and documentation to support projects including schedules, cost data and progress reports. Develops standard operating procedures (SOPs) for best practices. Communicates effectively with department managers, supervisors and employees to ensure timely resolution of problems. Participates in new equipment selection and commission. Provides innovative suggestions for improving manufacturing processes including the automation of current and future equipment and processes. Provides technical support to lead personnel and setup personnel as needed. Support root cause corrective action (RCCA) initiatives to reduce quality rejections and improve first pass yield. Assures that tooling requirements are met by existing suppliers and stays in touch with tooling advancements and changes. Oversees the development and utilization of specialty tooling. Oversees the development and maintenance of all manufacturing CNC programs. Makes recommendations to Human Resource Department for employee development and training programs. Conducts technical training when necessary. Mentors, trains, and develops less experienced engineers. Lead co-op and intern recruiting efforts with local colleges and universities. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities) 4-year degree in engineering and/or manufacturing 4
years experience in a manufacturing environment 2
years of management experience in a manufacturing environment Knowledgeable in lean manufacturing principles Self-directed and possess' initiative to complete projects Working knowledge of Microsoft software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Excellent problem solving skills and ability to make sound decisions Ability to communicate within all levels of the organization Must be organized and disciplined to maintain a schedule PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience with ERP systems, preferably SAP. Lean/Six-Sigma Experience (Green Belt or Black Belt) Experience working in an ISO certified facility Experience with NADCAP special processes including heat treating, plating, destructive and non-destructive testing Experience with CNC programming and design software, preferably Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor, Mastercam and/or Esprit Experience with CNC lathe & milling machining PHYSICAL DEMANDS Combination of office & shop environments. Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required; ability to sit at a computer for a length of time; ability to position self to move, some lifting may be required up to 30 pounds. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
